Ancient Cycles
Tea is not stuff apart from where it comes. It is a cycle of rain to river, river to ocean and ocean to cloud. The moon pulls at its roots as it does all other beings. To drink tea is to drink the clouds, the moon and the mountain. It is also to drink the great formless emptiness that underlies it all. The calligraphy is an old Zen phrase for enlightenment: “The clouds part and reveal the full moon.” It is a painting on special 120-gram handmade paper using ink and aged shou puerh. It is bigger than my usual paintings at 55cm x 79cm.
